Work from home. This phrase has been overly used by now. I have the feeling that some people hate it and some actually love it! For me, I love it. I’ve been working from home right after I graduated from my college, WFH has become my lifestyle over the years. Now there are its pros & con’s like every work environment it looks perfect but honestly, it isn’t. Here are a few things I would like to tell you on how to actually enjoy it & make the most out of your Work from Home Experience.

  1. The bliss of Not Travelling.
I live in Mumbai, it’s a very crowded city filled with millions of people living in it. And that brings a lot of traffic, long hours of commute to work, rush hours, crowds, etc. But because of how flexible my work environment is I’m thankful that I don’t usually have to travel in a rush during traffic. That’s 1 beauty of WFH that I’m so sure all of us LOVE! No traffic no Rush!
  2. Taking accountability for your actions.
If you’re an entrepreneur, solopreneur, or freelancer who works for yourself this is going to be a bit difficult. As we work for ourselves it is difficult to keep other people accountable for their actions. Now especially if you’re working from home plus for yourself, it is way easy to let procrastination slip in. Having a sense of accountability for yourself is very important. So borderline, don’t try to be too harsh on yourselves but take the accountability that you’re doing the required amount of effort towards yourself & your business.
  3. No Work-Life Balance.
I’ve been a victim of this most of the time. WFH means having no work-life balance at least for me. There are countless amount of times where I’ve just didn’t bother to shut my laptop & go to bed. It can turn from a very healthy mindset of working to a negative one instantly. I’ve set myself some rules in order to regain my work-life balance in the past few weeks. One being able to shut off my laptop at 6–7 pm max. I know for some people who work for organizations it isn’t possible but try inculcating activities such as reading, yoga, meditation, drawing after your work. That'll help you to take your mind off work. I have a small “Self Of the Day” section in my Bullet Journal where each day I have to do something for myself after long hours of work. Try it out it really helps!
  4. Time Management & Planning is Crucial!
I cannot stress enough how Important Planning is. As I’ve mentioned previously working from home over the years has sometimes made me so productive and some days were a total flop. Now if you don’t want most of your days to go flop planning comes in handy & very crucial. Simple things such as planning your next day by writing out a to-do list can make a lot of difference! This way you know exactly what tasks need to be done today & they aren’t left for the future. Another planning technique you can try is priority listing. On a piece of paper or on your notes section of your phone write down the top 5 tasks which need to be done today. Give them priority & now you exactly know which are the most urgent tasks that need to be fulfilled for the day.

Work from home is definitely simple yet so complex for all of us. All we can do is take 1 step at a time & slowly take control of our work environment. I always loved this quote “ Work is a part of your life, not all your life” As much as we love working we also need the escape from it, though we can’t really travel right now here were some ways to escape & free yourself.
